REMAKING LONDON

Last Friday I attended the launching of a friend's book. I was soooo tired after the express trip to Paris the day before but I find very important supporting friends with their success. The presentation was in the University College London (UCL) in Gower St. The tittle of the book is "Remaking London; decline and regeneration in urban culture"and Ben Campkin the author, provides an stimulating historical account of urban regeneration, exploring how decline and renewal have been imagined and realised at different scales; he focuses on present-day regeneration areas that have been key to the capital's modern identity. Can't wait to read it!! For the event as I was running late I didn't have time to think on what to wear (as usual) so I wore what I did while working at home that day.

El viernes por la trade asistí a la presentación del libro de un amigo en el University College London (UCL) en Gower St. Aunque me encontraba cansadísimo después del viaje exprés a Paris del día anterior, me acerqué un rato ya que es súper importante apoyar y estar cerca de los amigos o gente que admiramos en los momentos importantes ya que destrás de cada éxito hay muchísimo trabajo y esfuerzo. El libro se titula "Remaking London; decline and regeneration in urban culture" y en él Ben Campkin trata sobre la regeneración de toda clase de barrios en la ciudad que se han convertido en referentes culturales de Londres; cómo la ciudad se reinventa y recicla para sobrevivir y sacar partido incluso donde no hay recursos. Como iba corriendo y un poco tarde a la presentación, no tuve tiempo de pensar en qué ponerme, así que me fui con lo que llevaba ese día de trabajo en casa.

TO THE MOVIES

A very lazy Sunday afternoon gives us actually quite a few options to do. You can choose between spending it checking out on Facebook what your friends (or not that friends) are up to or you can pick a good movie to watch. Here I am recommending you few of my favourite; I just love them, because they are pieces of art, the aesthetic is divine or just because they are very easy to watch. Choose one and enjoy it with a rich coffee and a good piece of bread. What a plan!!! :D

Una perezosa tarde de domingo tienes varias opciones; una de ellas es pasártela delante del ordenador viendo en Facebook lo que tus amigos (o no tan amigos) hacen y otra mucho más interesante y productiva es ver una buena película ;D 

Abajo os recomiendo algunas de mis favoritas, bien porque son peliculones, bien por la estética o simplemente porque son muy "fácil" de ver.

Un buen café, un trozo de pan y una de estas películas, el plan perfecto!! ;)

Spanish Boy In Istanbul (IV)

Another trip to Istanbul, the city that thanks to work and the wonderful people I work with is becoming my home more that a place to visit. There are a lot of options to do in this amazing and magical city and today I am gonna recommend you the ones for me are a must. Let's start...

The best fish I've ever had is in Rumelihisari Iskele in Bebek by the Bosphorus, with beautiful views of the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge.
We normally have a "sushi night" every week and always in SushiCo in Nisantasi, so fresh and delicious sashimi :P

On Saturday night you have to go for dinner to Balikcilar Pazari in Besiktas, a very old fish market surrounded by lots and lots of little restaurants where you can taste delicious fish and famous turkish "tapas" and of course do it with Raki, the typical drink ;)

A good plan for the day is walking around Ortaköy visiting all the stalls with typical crafts and have a break to enjoy a filled big potato ;)

The best köfte (meat balls) served with piyaz (haricot bean salad), in Tarihi Sultanahmet Köftecisi.
I love SALT Gallery in Karaköy and ARTER Gallery in Taksim.

My favourite places to walk and get lost in Istanbul is Karaköy, Galata and Beyoglu... in Beyoglu you have to visit Çivan boutique and get a beautiful shirt ;)

Also visiting the Asian part by boat is highly recommended and come back when it gets dark which make the journey absolutely magical.

Estambul es una ciudad que se está convirtiendo en mi hogar más que un lugar de visita. Hoy quiero recomendaros algunos de los lugares que más me apasionan o inspiran y también donde mejor se come ;) Empecemos...

El mejor pescado lo he comido en Rumelihisari Iskele en Bebek; no sé qué tiene el pescado en Estambul pero sabe como en ningún otro sitio; quizás sea esa mezcla del Mar Negro y el del Mármara... en fin, este restaurante además tiene unas vistas maravillosas al puente de Fatih Sultan Mehmet y está a orillas del Bósforo...increíble.

Nuestras "Sushi nights" siempre son en SushiCo en Nisantasi donde el sashimi es muy fresco y delicioso.

Para el sábado por la noche nada mejor que ir a cenar a cualquiera de los barecillos que rodean el antiguo (y aún en uso) mercado del pescado Balikcilar Pazari en Besiktas y no olvidéis acompañar la cena con la famosa bebida Raki ;)

Un buen plan para el dia es pasear por Ortaköy y comprar alguna artesanía en sus muchos puestecillos y parar a comer una patata con guarnición también a orillas del Bósforo.

Una de mis galerias favoritas está en Taksim y es gratis Arter Gallery y también es digna de visitar Salt Gallery en Karaköy.

Las mejores albóndigas turcas (köfte) servidas con ensalada de judias (piyaz) en Tarihi Sultanahmet Köftecisi.

Mis zonas preferidas de Estambul para pasear y perderme son Karaköy, Galata y Beyoglu (una al lado de la otra). En Beyoglu teneis que visitar la boutique de Çivan y comprar una de sus maravillosas camisas ;)

RICHMOND, LONDON

Autumn is definitely here so is time to take out your winter coats, burberry scarf and hats ;) The weather changes dramatically so the colours of the trees, the light... and is kind of you want to spend more time at home. But because I work from home, I just wanna go out!! And one of the perfect places to go this time of the year is Richmond. A beautiful town just 40 minutes away from London and you can go by tube!! You will enjoy a nice walk by the river, its wonderful parks (if you are lucky you can see the deers in Richmond Park; is like a tale...). A coffee or a beer on the riverside would be just delightly. I recommend you to have Fish and Chips in the Quality Fish Restaurant on 11 King St. TW9 1ND and a romantic dinner in the cosy and nostalgic boat on the river "The Boat at Richmon Bridge". If you go for couple of days be sure you get a spa hotel. Just enjoy the walks, food, views, company and life ;)

El Otoño ha venido y dispuesto a no dar tregua, así que ya es hora de sacar los abrigos, la bufanda de Burberry y los gorros de lana. El tiempo ha cambiado dramaticamente al igual que los colores de los árboles, la luz... parece que apetece quedarse más tiempo en casa, pero como yo trabajo desde casa ¡¡sólo quiero estar fuera!! Y uno de los lugares perfectos para visitar en esta época del año es Richmond. A sólo 40 minutos de Londres y además se puede llegar en metro, no os decepcionarán sus paisajes y sus maravillosos parques. Pasear por las orillas del rio o simplemente tomar un café o una pinta es una delicia, y ver a los cervatillos en Richmond Park es como de cuento. Os recomiendo un Fish and Chips en Quality Fish Restaurant on 11 King St. TW9 1ND o una romántica cena en el entrañable "The Boat at Richmon Bridge" que es un barquito en el rio. Si vais de visita un par de dias no dudéis en coger un hotel con spa. Ya me contaréis qué tal la experiencia ;) Disfrutad de los paisajes, la comida y sobre todo de la compañía y la vida :)

SPITALFIELDS LIFE

It is very well know how much I love London and how in love I am with East End in particular with Spitalfields, the neighborhood I used to live. When I moved to Spain forwork last year, I discovered www.spitalfieldslife.com, a wonderful web where The Gentle Author writes about the history of that wonderful and kind of secret place in London. Whe the book came out I was so excited (I love better things I can touch and smell) and just last month I had the honor of meeting The Gentle Author in and exhibition and he signed the copy of the book I got right there. The book is cosy, beautifully ilustrated and full of people telling their stories. People from one of the poorest areas in the city that has recycled itself through the efforts and the illusion of which there have grown or have just simply fallen there by chance. Get your book and enjoy the web :)

Muchos ya sabréis que soy un enamorado de Londres y sobre todo del Este en particular Spitalfields, el barrio donde vivía cuando me vine a vivir aquí. Cuando me mudé a España el año pasado por trabajo, descubrí la web www.spitalfieldslife.com donde The Gentle Author escribe sobre las histórias menos conocidas sobre el barrio y las generaciones que lo han habitado durante décadas. Cuando salió a la venta la versión en libro de la web me alegré muchísimo ya que siempre me gusta mucho más disfrutar de las cosas que puedo tocar y oler ;)

El mes pasado, en una exposición, tuve el honor de conocer a The Gentle Author y no dudó un segundo en firmarme mi libro de Spitalfieldslife :) Un libro maravilloso, entrañable, con ilustraciones maravillosas y lleno de historias contadas por gente que ha vivido en una de las áreas más pobres de Londres y gracias a su esfuerzo y de los que allí han llegado, han conseguido levantar un barrio que hoy en dia se puede sentir orgulloso de ser uno de los más inspiradores de la ciudad. LITTLE TREATS IN A GOOD WEEKEND

Last weekend I felt so treating myself after the trip to Istanbul, and that´s what I did. I got delicious macarons from Ladurée in a speacial edition box celebrating the Queen´s Diamond Jubelee and my fragance Quercus from Penhaligon´s. A good aroma and a delicate flavor make our good moments even better!! ;)

El pasado fin de semana recién llegado de Estambul, me apetecía darme un pequeño capricho, así que bajé a Burlington Arcade en MyFair a por macarons en Ladurée (compré la cajita especial edición Queen´s Diamond Jubelee) y mi colonia Quercus de Penhaligon´s. Porque un buen aroma y un delicado sabor siempre potencian nuestros buenos momentos ;)

FLOWERING UP

Last Friday, after a very productive morning of work I felt flowering, si I decided to go down to Angel and get some peonies for the new house.

But they didn´t have in the kiosk I love so I walked along Upper St. and... surprise!! I found a beautiful flower stall with lots of peonies, Blondies Flowers!!! :)

The girl who served me was so nice and gave me some tips to make the flowers live longer and also gave me an extre peonie for free ;)

As the weather was amazing I walked home through Canombury area which is gorgeous (I will post someday about its houses and gardens).

Ok, I´m going back to work now; enjoy and flower up your life!! ;)

El viernes pasado tras una muy productiva mañana de trabajo, me apeteció de pronto comprar unas peonías para el nuevo apartamento, así que me bajé a Angel, pero cuando llegué al kiosko de las flores no tenías peonías :S

Decidí dar un paseo por Upper St y ver las tiendecitas de muebles de segunda mano, y andando andando me topé con un precioso puestecito de flores, Blondies Flower. Qué alegría, además la chica que me atendió fue muy maja y me regaló una peonía extra :)

Hacía un día tan bueno que me volví andando a casa cruzando todo Canombury, una zona preciosa a la que quiero dedicar un post en el blog sobre sus maravillosas casas y jardines.

Ok, ahora voy a trabajar un rato. Disfrutad y llenad de flores vuestra casa y vuestra vida!! ;)

I usually don´t write here about work but today is special ;). And this is because one of the dresses I designed for the company I was working for until last week, was in the one of the chapters on the show Gossip Girl and Serena Van der Woodsen was wearing it!!! I am so flattered ;)

Normalmente no hablo de mi trabajo en el blog pero hoy lo hago por un hecho muy especial; y es que uno de los vestidos que he diseñado para la compañía en la que he trabajado hasta hace una semana, aparece en uno de los capítulos de Gossip Girl y es la protagonista, Serena Van der Woodsen, la que lo lleva puesto!!! Cuando me envió el link una ex-compañera de curro,me dió una alegría increíble. aquí el link. Qué subidón. Sólo decir que estoy muy contento y orgulloso :)
