REMAKING LONDON

Last Friday I attended the launching of a friend's book. I was soooo tired after the express trip to Paris the day before but I find very important supporting friends with their success. The presentation was in the University College London (UCL) in Gower St. The tittle of the book is "Remaking London; decline and regeneration in urban culture"and Ben Campkin the author, provides an stimulating historical account of urban regeneration, exploring how decline and renewal have been imagined and realised at different scales; he focuses on present-day regeneration areas that have been key to the capital's modern identity. Can't wait to read it!! For the event as I was running late I didn't have time to think on what to wear (as usual) so I wore what I did while working at home that day.

El viernes por la trade asistí a la presentación del libro de un amigo en el University College London (UCL) en Gower St. Aunque me encontraba cansadísimo después del viaje exprés a Paris del día anterior, me acerqué un rato ya que es súper importante apoyar y estar cerca de los amigos o gente que admiramos en los momentos importantes ya que destrás de cada éxito hay muchísimo trabajo y esfuerzo. El libro se titula "Remaking London; decline and regeneration in urban culture" y en él Ben Campkin trata sobre la regeneración de toda clase de barrios en la ciudad que se han convertido en referentes culturales de Londres; cómo la ciudad se reinventa y recicla para sobrevivir y sacar partido incluso donde no hay recursos. Como iba corriendo y un poco tarde a la presentación, no tuve tiempo de pensar en qué ponerme, así que me fui con lo que llevaba ese día de trabajo en casa.

CIVAN ISTANBUL

During my staying in Istanbul I could enjoy a full day off: no car, no phone, no company... and I enjoyed a lot!!! I went early in the morning to Taksim but this time I decided I wanted to walk different streets so I took a different way... and I got lost :D

I found myself in one of the most inspiring and bohemian neighbourhood in Istanbul, Çukurcuma. Very old buildings and lots and lots of very old shops (furniture, clothing, toys...), people selling stuff on the streets... and walking all around it kept my attention a very old tailoring shop so I went into the store and it ended being a new designer one but keeping a beautiful old fashion atmosphere.

The brand is called Civan and I fell in love. There it was the creative director Bahar Gozkum, a very lovely girl and she helped me on the buying of a wonderful shirt. The tailor was in there too so he made some alterations to the shirt I got just in five minutes :)

Vintage fabrics and buttons that Bahar is using on her collections giving to the clothe an unique touch. I am so happy I found this shop and I met Bahar, is always nice to find people who believe in quality and  very personal work. There is still good Fashion out there ;)

Durante mi estancia en Estambul pude disfrutar de un dia libre y solo sin coche, sin telefono, sin idea de dónde estaba... Por la mañana temprano me fui a Taksim pero esta vez decidí tirar por calles por las que nunca había paseado y claro, acabé perdido :D 

De pronto me encontré en uno de los barrios que más me han gustado de Estambul, Çukurcuma: edificios súper viejos, tiendas y tiendas de muebles antiguos, ropa vieja, decoración, juguetes... precioso.

Y entre ellas me llamó la atención una sastrería antigua que resulta ser una nueva marca Civan, pero que mantiene la decoración y atmósfera de antaño :)

La tienda y la ropa me enamoraron enseguida y allí estaba su majísima diseñadora Bahar Gozkum, quien me ayudó a elegir una camisa que el sastre adaptó a mis medidas en el momento ;)

Para sus colecciones, Bahar utiliza telas antiguas, botones viejos, etc que aportan a las prendas un aire único. Me alegra ver que hay quien sigue apostando por pequeñas colecciones hechas con cariño y pasión :)

SILVIA "la" CABACO

More than once I have said how lucky I am because of the amazing people I can count as my friends and no doubt Silvia la Cabaco is one of them :) I  met Silvia while living and working in Madrid and even though we had little issues at the beginning due to a red pen, we built a beautiful friendship. I deeply admire Silvia's sensibility: her drawings, her stories, that universe she creates and she lives in, her private and maybe ideal world. This girl grew up in Extremadura, Spain surrounded by her mother's patterns, fabrics and sewing machine. A creative environment that helped Silvia to develop the fantasy world she tries to show us through her illustrations. Cute and mysterious characters in some of which I can see Silvia herself. Don't stop yourself on visiting her site here it won't disappoint you ;)

Si de algo puedo presumir es de tener fantásticos e interesantes amigos, y Silvia la Cabaco es sin duda una de ellos :)

Silvia y yo nos conocimos hace muchos años cuando yo vivía y trabajaba en Madrid,; y aunque al principio tuvimos algún que otro problema con el boli rojo, acabamos teniendo una maravillosa amistad. Admiro profundamente la sensibilidad de Silvia, su manera de ver el mundo y trasmitirlo a través de sus ilustraciones, cargadas de significado y de delicadeza. Silvia creció en Extremadura rodeada por los patrones, las telas y la máquina de coser de su madre, recibiendo inspiración desde temprana edad. Fue allí donde empezó a crear ese universo tan personal y difícil de llegar a conocer, pero que plasma tan bien en sus ilustraciones, donde entre sus tímidos y delicados personajes claramente se adivina a Silvia en alguno de ellos ;)

No dejéis de visitar su web aquí donde además de ilustraciones podréis encontrar algún que otro libro infantil que ha publicado. Cuánto me inspira y admiro a Silvia la Cabaco ;)
