Spanish Boy In Istanbul (II)

Hi lovers ;) keeping with my Istanbul experiences, here what I did last Sunday (day off!!! ;). I spent the day with my loved Secil and Adil two wonderful persons and friend who are always taking care of me ;) 

Adil wanted to show me gorgeous places in Istanbul and last Sunday he suggested to have breakfast at Café Pierre Loti due to the fantastic views. I really wanted to visit Haghia Sophia but a good breakfast is always welcome ;) and it was so worthy going to this Café as the views where amazing and when we were having the breakfast it started to snow like crazy!!! :D

After the breakfast and very cold we went to the magnificent Haghia Sophia. I was speechless, like in another world; couldn't believe I was just standing on the impressive Mosque long years ago I studied at school as a child. When I was just in front of the mosaic of the Pantocrator I nearly cry. Haghia Sophia is the emblem of Constantinople, a Byzantine gem. The basilica was built by Justinian around 532 and converted into a mosque in 1453 after the Ottoman invasion. With the conversion into a mosque, Christian motifs were covered under Islamic architectural and decorative details. Haghia Sophia was model for later mosques as Sultanahmet Camil or Blue Mosque which we also visited that day. Sultanahmet is very famous because of the tiles adorning the walls of its interior and it is the only mosque in Istanbul with six minarets.

After visiting the two mosques we were hungry enough to eat the famous and delicious köfte (meatballs) served with piyaz (haricot beans salad) at the famous place Tarihi Sultanahmet Köftecisi (next to Haghia Sophia): delicious and very good prices ;)

And after that, back to the hotel and rest for the week to come ;)

Siguiendo con mis historias por Estambul, un plan espectacular es el que tuve el domingo pasado (día libre de trabajo!!!). Pasé el día con Secil y Adil, encantadores compañeros y amigos ;)

Adil sugirió empezar el día con un desayuno en el Café Pierre Loti ya que las vistas desde allí son espectaculares; y no pudo haber sido mayor acierto. Maravillosas vistas y mientras desayunábamos empezó a caer una nevada increíble que le daba aún más encanto a la mañana.

Tras el desayuno nos fuimos a uno de los sitios que más ganas tenía de visitar, la basílica de Santa Sofia de Constantinopla. Gema Bizantina y emblema de Constantinopla, esta basílica fue construida entre los años 532 y 537 dC por orden del emperador Justiniano I y convertida en mezquita en 1453 tras la invasión Otomana. Cuando estaba dentro no podía creérmelo, estaba alucinando...un espacio tan cargado de Historia, secretos... y que tanto había estudiado de niño en la escuela...en fin, estaba como en otro mundo. Una de las cosas que más me impresionó fue el mosaico del Cristo Pantocrator. Con la conversión a mezquita, muchos de los motivos cristianos fueros cubiertos por detalles decorativos y arquitectónicos islámicos, aunque hoy en día y tras la restauración, muchos de ellos se han dejado al descubierto y sobre todo los mosaicos son dignos de admiración. Santa Sofía se convirtió en modelo para la construcción de numerosas mezquitas posteriores como su "compañera" Sultanamet o Mezquita Azul, situada justo enfrente y famosa por sus bellísimos mosaicos azules de Iznic que decoran sus pareces interiores.

Tras la visita a estas dos maravillas, el hambre nos obligó a parar en el famoso Tarihi Sultanahmet Köftecisi (justo al lado de Santa Sofía) a comer las que se han convertido en todo un must, las deliciosas köfte (albóndigas) servidas con piyaz (ensalada de judías blancas). Y tras todas estas aventuras, vualta al hotel a descansar para la dura y maravillosa semana que me esperaba ;)

Spanish Boy In Istanbul (I)

Hello all ;) Due to my work, I'm spending few weeks in Istanbul developing the new collection. In my others trips to this city I din't have much time to visit places but this time I am trying to see a little bit more and thanks to the lovely people around me I am feeling so at home in this big and exotic Istanbul.

Last Saturday I finished work early and after a successful fitting of the collection, my Darling Silvana took me to the Grand Bazaar of Istanbul. I was looking forward to seeing the Grand Bazaar and I have to say I was very satisfied with the experience. Lots and lots of little shops selling all kind of goods, and my favourite were the fabrics, ceramic and antiques ;) and of course I had to get one of the wonderful suzani textiles, hand embroidered with silk. After the Grand Bazaar we took the overground to go to the Spices Bazaar, where thousands of stands exposed delicious spices, teas, cheeses, candied fruit... 

An after the marvellous experience of meeting those two beautiful and inspiring places, Silvana invited me to have dinner in a very charming place at Fransiz Sokagi (or the French Street) where we enjoyed a gorgeous Turkish red wine and a very emotional and friendly talk surrounded by a magical Turkish live music... Amazing ;)

Estoy pasando un mes de trabajo en Estambul desarrollando una nueva colección, y aunque en mis viajes anteriores a la ciudad turca no tuve tiempo de visitar muchos lugares, esta vez estoy teniendo la oportunidad de explorar rincones de lo más exóticos e inspiradores. Y sobre todo, en muy buena compañía :)
El sábado pasado tuve que hacer fitting de la colección pero acabé temprano, así que mi Darling Silvana me llevó a conocer el Gran Bazar y el Bazar de las Especias. El Gran Bazar es espectacular, com más de 4.000 tiendecitas donde se venden telas, cerámicas, joyería, antigüedades...todo de Turquía, claro. Y allí me compré un maravilloso tejido suzani de seda, bordado a mano con hilo de seda.
El Bazar de las Especias es toda una experiencia y allí se pueden encontrar todo tipo de especias, tes o quesos... y una mezcla de aromas impregna el ambiente... es mágico.
Después de los bazares, cuando la noche se dejó caer sobre la ciudad de Estambul, Silvana me llevó a cenar a la maravillosa Fransiz Sokagi (o la French Street) donde se agolpaban un centenar de restaurantes en un entorno muy entrañable y casual, y donde músicos turcos tocaban y cantaban en directo en plena calle; todo ello mezclado con un buen vino turco hizo de la velada un momento único, como de cuento...

JESÚS MARTÍN

Yesterday I was telling you about my amazing friend Álvaro González Bombín and today I cannot help writing about another amazing and super talented one too, Jesús Martín. 

I met Jesús years ago when we both were studying Fashion in Madrid and even though we were not very close at the beginning (ssshhssshh) we managed to build a very strong relation ship based in respect and mutual admiration (and a special taste for Fashion). We have seen each other growing up from students to professionals in Fashion Industry and when I saw yesterday his first cover in a magazine I was jumping of happiness. I couldn't be more proud of him.

Here the whole shooting styled be Jesús Martín.

Si ayer os hablaba sobre el increíble Álvaro González Bombín hoy no puedo evitar hacerlo de otro de mis mejores amigos, el talentoso Jesús Martín.

Jesús y yo nos conocimos hace años cuando los dos estudiábamos Diseño de Moda en Madrid, y aunque al principio no estábamos muy unidos, con el tiempo fuimos construyendo una sólida relación basada en el respeto y admiración mutua (you better, puta). Nos hemos visto crecer desde que éramos unos jóvenes estudiantes hasta poco a poco y con mucho esfuerzo convertirnos en lo que hoy somos (whatever that means).

Ya os podéis imaginar cómo me puse ayer cuando vi su primera portada en una revista; daba saltos de alegría :) No puedo estar más orgulloso de él.

Sr. BOMBÍN

I am proud enough to say I am friend with some of the most inspiring and special persons in the world and one of them is my friend Mr. Bombín. Today is starting a new chapter in his life that I am sure is bringing lots of success and happiness. No one deserves more than him to be part of the Fashion History and I couldn't be prouder of him and his hard work. 

His designs don't need to be eccentric to be unique, he just gives them that touch that makes them desirable and beautiful. 

Good luck and all my respect to Mr. Bombín.

Hay personas que llegan a tu vida para enriquecerla, aportar inspiración y hacerte sentir único. Y el Sr Bombín es sin lugar a duda una de ellas. 

No voy a hablar de nuestra relación porque es algo muy privado pero sí del grandísimo talento del Sr. Bombín. Sus diseños tienen ese toque que sin ser extravagantes los hace especiales, deseables y con un sello único. Hoy empieza capítulo alucinante en la vida de mi amigo Álvaro, y aunque me entristece mucho el que se vaya de Londres, no puedo dejar de expresar lo orgulloso que estoy de él por su don y sobre todo por su duro trabajo. Mereces como nadie la entrada en la Historia de la Moda; enhorabuena Sr. Bombín.
