THE RESIDENCE GALLERY

Last Saturday, the fact of having got my wisdom tooth removed didn't stop me to go to the Opening Shopping Party at The Residence Gallery just in the heart of historic Victoria Park Village. This interesting and quirky gallery "is transforming this month of June into a meat market contaminated with contemporary art" on words of her owner, the powerful and charismatic Ingrid Z. This multifaceted woman which is an artist herself can be proud of have created and space to launch the upcoming artists. Here you can find amazing pieces from exotic, established and scandalously unknown artist. Harry Pye, Emma Watson, Nicola Carter, David Miller...and one of my favourites, Samantha Bull and her rockin' taxidermy mice. 

Have a look the the website as just on top of the gallery you can also rent The Residential Suit and live the secret of real Londoner life. 

So go to The Residence Gallery, buy some affordable art and don't miss the opportunity of meeting the inspiring and phenomenal Ingrid Z.

El Sábado pasado y con las muelas del juicio recién extraídas, me pasé por la inauguración de la Shopping Party en The Residence Gallery en el corazón de la histórica y maravillosa zona Victoria Park. 

Esta curiosa e interesante galería se convierte durante el mes de Junio en "un mercado de carne contaminado con piezas de arte contemporáneo" según las palabras de su propietaria y comisaria Ingrid Z; Ingrid Z, que es una artista ella misma y un personaje digno de conocer, lanza desde este espacio en el Este de Londres a los grandes artistas del futuro: Harry Pye, Emma Watson, Nicola Carter, David Miller...y una de mis favoritas, Samantha Bull y sus "esculturas" de ratones tratados con la técnica de la taxidermia. 

Echa un vistazo a la web ya que sobre la galleria se encuentra The Residential Suit, un espacio que se alquila a modo de hotel privado y que te hará sentir que eres un real londinense de la época victoriana.

Pásate por The Residence Gallery, compra alguna pieza de arte (los precios son increíbles) y sobre todo, conoce a la increíble y poderosa Ingrid Z.

CHRISTIAN DIOR LONDON

Couple of days ago I managed to go to Harrods to watch the exhibition about Christian Dior. I went with Christine as she was expending couple of days in London before coming back to New York. It was beautiful. The windows are all decorated with the new collection and very English emblems like the Big Ben, London Eye or the Red Buses. And at the 4th floor there is an exhibition about Christian Dior and his relationship with London (labels, invitation to private shows...) also some toiles from last couture collections are exhibited and some pieces that Audrey Hepburn or Elisabeth Tailor wore. Really beautiful and FREE. So if you are in London or you're thinking on coming don't stop yourself on going to Harrods and enjoying a bit of Fashion History that unfortunately tends to expire...

Hace un par de días tuve la suerte de poder bajar a Harrods con Christine (que estaba pasando unos días en Londres antes de volver a Nueva York) para admirar la maravillosa exposición sobre Christian Dior y su estrecha relación con Londres, sobre todo en la primera etapa de la firma. Los escaparates están decorados con la última colección de Dior junto con motivos emblemáticos de Londres como el Big Ben, London Eye o los famosos autobuses de dos plantas. Y en la cuarta planta de Harrods se encuentra la exposición con varias piezas de costura, toiles de las colecciones, miniaturas de vestidos y otras instalaciones. Y además, gratis!!! Si estáis por Londres o tenéis pensado venir, no dejéis de pasar por Harrods y visitar una exposición maravillosa en la que disfrutareis de una parte de la moda que, por desgracia, tiende a desaparecer...

SORPRESA!! :)

Como no iba a ser menos el resto de la Península, en Coruña no deja de llover (cuatro dias sin parar :S). Pero dependiendo de cómo uno se lo tome, un dia gris y lluvioso puede tornarse a un dia lleno de luz y fantasía :)
Ayer, despues de chequear internet en un café, nos metimos (escapando de la lluvia) en la Fundación Caixa Galicia, donde entre otras muchas interesantes actividades, se encuentra la exposición de una artista cubana que no conocía y que me impresionó bastante, AMELIA PELÁEZ
Me cautivó la fuerza de sus pinturas, la delicadeza, una mezcla de contradicciones que es lo que más define las grandes obras. Los contornos de las figuras remarcados en un grueso trazo negro se alejan de toda sutileza pero sin dejar de ser bello. Simple pero profundas, así son sus pinturas. Fusión de lo contemporáneo y lo folclórico, lo universal y lo local, lo cosmopolita y lo nativo...
Y pude escuchar en el video de la exposición a la artista diciendo aquello de: "Siempre supe lo que quise, siempre hice lo que quise; la espontaneidad ha sido mi prima...".
En fin, si pasais por Coruña acercaos a la Fundación Caixa Galicia (C/ Cantón Grande nº21-24) y si no, echad un vistazo a la obra de esta mujer en internet.
Pero la GRAN SORPRESA llegó cuando receibí una inexperada llamada de alguien que vino a visitarme!!!!!! Miguel (el de Cordobilla, no el de NY) convirtiéndose en mi primera visita ;) y además me trajo una pequeña mascota que me encantaba cuando compartíamos piso en Madrid y que en nada decorará algún rinconcillo de mi nueva casa ;) (mía y de mi Inglés :)

It´s gonna be four days rainning non stop in Coruña :S but it depends of your mood you can turn a rainny grey day into a beautiful one ;)
After checking internet in a coffee shop we popped into Fundación Caixa Galicia (C/ Cantón Grande nº21-24) where I discovered an amazing Cuban artist AMELIA PELÁEZ 
Her paintings have this amazing mix of power and delicateness, simplicity but depth. Very thick black lines drawing the outlines and silhouettes with very bright and happy colours. Mix of comtemporary and folk, the international and the local...

One of the things I loved from the video of the exhibition was when Amelia said: “I always knew what I wanted and I always did what I wanted; spontaneity is a must in life...”
So if you are thinking on coming to La Coruña, go to Fundación Caixa Galicia and enjoy the free exhibition!! And if not, have a look on the web.
But the BIG SURPRISE arrived in the afternoon when I got a phone call from a very special friend who came to visit me :) and brought a super cute present I used to love when we lived together in Madrid. Thank you Miguel!!!
So, as I said, you can turn a very dark day into the brighter day ever ;)

GRUAU VS DIOR

Hace un par de domingos, tras levantarnos un poco más tarde, nos fuimos a desayunar a un café súper Londoner en Liverpool Street, y de ahí nos bajamos al Tamesis atravesando toda la City, absolutamente desierta en domingo; cosa que me encanta, ya que durante la semana las calles de este área están plagadas de business men, pero el domingo... es una maravilla perderse entre los rascacielos y los edificios renacentistas de la zona de Bank o Moorgate (además hacía un sol increible :)

Desde que se inaugurara la exposición de Gruau en Londres deseaba ir pero nunca encontraba el tiempo...

así que cuando mi Inglés y yo ya íbamos paseando por el rio y pasamos por Somerset House sentí que no podía seguir esquivándola.

Fue increible, ver los dibujos de Gruau en persona me emocionó. La exposición se centra en las campañas que preparó para los perfumes de Dior. Ver de cerca los bocetos e imagenes previas, esa bella imperfección del trazo... es un placer y una inspiración únicos. Los textos que acompañan a algunas de las ilustraciones hablan del feeling tan especial que había entre Dior y Gruau, lo bien que conectaban y cómo ambos se vieron fuertemente influenciados por la elegancia de sus aristocráticas madres.

También se exponen algunos trajes de Alta Costura de Christian Dior y de Galliano para Dior.

Sólamente por seis libras podeis trasladaros a un universo de glamour y chic... y con la entrada os darán además un pequeño libro con algunas imágenes y comentarios.

No lo dudeis, de vez en cuando viene bien sumergirse en la decadencia del ayer.

It was two sundays ago when after waking up a little bit later than ususal, we went to have an English Breakfast to that cute and super Londoner coffee at Liverpool Street, and after that, towards the Thames, we walked around the City, completely empty and so relaxed. I love walking around this area on Sundays as during weekdays is so full of business men and people, but on the weekend I love enjoyin the skyscraper and neoclassical buildings on Bank or Moorgate.

I really wanted to go to Rene Gruau´s exhibition about Christian Dior´s parfums since I knew it was in London, but I never had time, so when we bumped into Somerset House during our walk by the river, I couldn´t scape.

Amazing, so beautiful exhibition. It was so emotional to see face to face Gruau´s drawings, the beauty of the imperfection in the outline sketch and that glamour-chic in every single ilustration.

I could read that Gruau and Dior had a very close relationship and both of them were inspired by their aristocratic mothers.

Beautiful and for only 6 pounds (and you will get a little book as well). And you will see couture dresses by Christian Dior and John Galliano for Dior.

So go and live for a few moments the decadence of an era...
